Cooking Delicious Food With Copy Cat Restaurant Recipes

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

Local grocery stores offer shoppers a choice of copy cat restaurant recipes for the at home chef. Ever since the first top secret restaurant recipe was created and loved by the public, other companies have looked to create the same loyalty in consumers.

In the food industry, secret recipes have long been observed to find out what made the creators successful. Creating similar or exact copies of a successful product has been what many recipe creators have tried to avoid. Our choices increase when similar products created by different companies are available to choose from.

True famous restaurant recipes duplicating has been the focus of attention for some famous restaurant recipes. Consider this, “11 herbs and spices combined together and fried on chicken.” Two all beef patties have a special sauce that has also been the focus of copy cat recipes from those who want to offer a product that everyone is familiar with, and has proven to be successful.

Some of the most highly guarded recipes have never been duplicated, but that does not mean that someone has not tried. Reproducing restaurant recipes as a threat to a business, and many companies have taken legal action against the duplicators.

Many restaurants offer people a way to get their flavors at home. Copy cat restaurant recipes can be a great way to infuse some great flavors into the home dining experience. Many healthy restaurants offer their secret recipes to the public from internet information sources and free restaurant recipes. When the creative at home cook wants to get cooking like the pros, they look for these recipes to make at home.

Franchise restaurant owners enjoy the benefits of copycat restaurant recipes. Created by the corporate brand, franchise owners use the popularity of secret flavors and recipes that originally made the brand famous. People look for what they love, and they love what they know.

When a restaurant menu design becomes so popular that others want to duplicate the success, new ways may be created to present a different product in the same way as an old favorite. A NYC restaurant menu like this would be the same as the Los Angeles restaurant menu in these cases, and while they can be considered copy cat recipes, the menu is actually shared rather than copied.

Probiotic Supplements For Your Health

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

Probiotic supplements come in popular foods like yogurt or cereal, as well as in probiotic capsules, powders and tablets. According to Mary Ellen Sanders, the president of the International Scientific Association for Probiotics, “There might be value in adding certain living, non-disease-causing bacteria and other microbes to our diets.” She said that bacteria can aid in digestion, decrease recovery time from illness and out-compete harmful bacteria. Even so, the American public has been slower to catch onto the idea than European and Asian markets as many people wonder, “Are probiotic supplements really worth it?”

Activa probiotic yogurt is one of the most widely accepted probiotic supplements. The idea of bacteria living inside dairy products has been around for years, so Americans aren’t so “creeped out” by it. You can eat one four-ounce yogurt containing bifidobacterium each day for a month for $20. This product claims to reduce gas and bloating, while restoring digestive regularity again. According to Dannon’s own research, food took 10-30 hours less to travel from one end of the GI tract to the other. In sales volume, Dannon’s Activa is the best probiotic food in the American market.

Another one of the Dannon probiotic supplements is their DanActive Drink, which contains lactobacillus casei and costs $20/month for one 3.3-ounce bottle per day. Their website claims that the elderly can drink it to strengthen the body’s natural defenses, parents can stay balanced, stressed teenagers can boost their energy levels and young kids can drink this healthy alternative to soda pop. In their nutrition probiotics study of 180 people, Dannon researchers found the prevalence of colds and GI illnesses were no different than the placebo group. However, the colds for the Dannon drinkers lasted 1.5 days less than the placebos.

So the question remains; should you take probiotic supplements or not? Recently, scientists at a health briefing in London, England suggested that adults over age 60 would be benefited by eating more probiotic foods or taking probiotic capsules daily. They said their research suggests that elderly patients tend to have 1,000 fewer beneficial bacteria than other adults. Holistic nutritionist Mike Adams adds, “The population of bacteria in your digestive tract exceeds the total number of your own cells in your entire body. Obviously, it’s a good idea to make sure those bacteria populations are friendly.”

Coffee from Coffee Beans

Monday, June 15th, 2009

It never ceases to amaze me how much folks all around the globe love coffee. In fact, java has got to be the most popular beverage worldwide. Naturally not just any old coffee will do for most java lovers.

The coffee beans used play a major role in the route to a great latte, espresso shot or cappuccino. This is something everyone should truly consider before investing their hard-earned dollars in just any old cup of caffeinated liquid.

It doesn’t matter if you’re purchasing coffee beans or grounds for home use or buying a latte at the local coffee house. It’s crucial to remember that there is so much to choose from. In a world that virtually runs on espresso and coffee beans, you’ll always have plenty of Joe to pick and choose from.

It’s high time you took into account the cup of coffee you sip on a daily basis. Where does it come from or do you make it yourself? If you do produce your own java in-house, then you should think about buying only the freshest coffee beans.

Basically they won’t cost you much more than the commercial stuff you’ll find in the local grocery stores. A lot of select coffee shops and high-end grocers have fine coffee beans. You can even buy them by the pound and take pleasure in them at your convenience.

Look on the bag to see a packaging date if you do choose to buy “fresh” coffee beans. This allows you to estimate and calculate how much longer the beans will be fresh. A general rule of thumb for coffee beans is approximately two weeks.

The difference between fresh java and the stuff you’ll find in air-tight cans at the local grocery store is massive. The truth is that once you try fresh beans that are freshly ground, you’ll likely never go back to old coffee. One way to improve your chances of getting fresh coffee beans is by checking for vacuum sealed bags in coffee shops and chains.

When coffee beans are vacuum sealed, their life span is increased to about three months or even more. Therefore if you’re buying a Starbuck’s blend from your local Starbuck’s, be sure it is vacuum packed for freshness. Once you open it, the smell will inform you immediately of its freshness.

Picking Coffee Brands For Your Best Cup Of Joe

Monday, June 15th, 2009

As with most grocery store items, there are choices galore in the coffee aisle. Some of us get stuck in a rut, buying one coffee brand for years on end. There are some truly delicious coffees on offer, but coffee is quite expensive these days. You may feel you don’t want to experiment with other brands only to be disappointed and be out some money. Here are some simple steps you can take that will allow you to hedge your bet, with very good odds of discovering new coffee brands you like.

There are two basic types of coffee beans, Arabica and Robusta. Arabica is the superior bean, with better body and flavor and no bitterness. The Robusta bean is usually mixed with Arabica in the lower priced coffee brands, so that the coffee company can pass the savings to you, for an economical cup of coffee. Each coffee company has its own proprietary mix which seeks to optimize the combination.

So, first on your survey is checking the labels of the different coffee brands, searching for the ‘100% Arabica’ notation. If it isn’t marked one way or the other, Robusta beans have been used. Although Arabica is more expensive, you’ll certainly notice the difference in the taste. Interestingly, the 100% Arabica coffee may require less coffee to produce the strength you like.

Coffee that boasts 100% Arabica may still cost a bit more, but hey, you’ve got to live a little every now and then. If you find a gourmet bulk bean labeled Arabica, watch for the sales – they all go on sale regularly – and buy a small amount to test. Some grocers stock inexpensive sample size bags of these coffees to induce you to give one a try.

Some of the gourmet coffee brands now feature organically grown 100% Arabica beans. Quite pricey, too, but Mr. Grocer holds his sales regularly, at very good prices.

Primarily for the canned coffee brands, they are mixes. You must read the label carefully as there is some that consist of all Arabica beans.

Another great place to try are coffee houses where they usually have a specialty for the day. Coffee sellers are well informed about their coffees and are happy to clue you in on the different blends. You can try taste for yourself for the price of a cup and if you like it, you can purchase a couple of amount. You can also try blends that taste just like that of a coffee house or make some of your own.

Use these tips to widen your horizons on the coffee front. You’re sure to find a few new coffee brands to freshen your tastebuds.

Choosing A Better Espresso Machine

Sunday, June 14th, 2009

These days, it seems there are more and more people having a tough time getting their day started without their morning cup of espresso to give them a boost, as evidenced by the plethora of specialty coffee and espresso places on just about every block across the country.

Even though there are tons of convenient places to grab the morning espresso, many people like the idea of having an espresso machine right in their own kitchen.

espresso machine
There are many different models and styles of home espresso machines on the market. The various models can cater to the various tastes, needs and budgets of the individual or family.

At times, it can become confusing and difficult to choose the right model of automatic espresso for your home. Listed below are the best brands, which are well-known for making high quality, espresso beverages.

When you start doing some comparison shopping, it won’t take long for you to find that there are primarily three kinds of espresso coffee machine models. These models are: manual, automatic, and super-automatic home espresso machines.

You should choose the one you will be most comfortable operating, understanding that the manual models will require more adjustments and fine-tuning.

coffee and espresso machines
In order to create a great tasting cup of this strong and wonderful coffee concoction, it is important to understand that it has as much to do with the person operating the machine (the barista), as it has to do with the actual machine itself. Because of this factor, you need to be sure to choose the right espresso equipment that you can control with ease.

If you don’t feel that you want to deal with the possibility of ruining your morning Italian espresso coffee, then you should consider either an automatic or a super-automatic espresso coffee maker.

These models do much of the work for you by taking the guesswork out of the process, while allowing you to relax and enjoy your drink instead of worrying about messing up the batch.

The cost of coffee and espresso machines start at under $100 and can go all the way up to $1,000 or more, depending on the different features you want. One of the most highly rated espresso machines is the Delonghi Magnificia Automatic Espresso Machine. This superior, quality machine is especially known for its ease of use and for the excellence of the finished product.

Another great option in home espresso machines is the Gaggia Synchrony Compact Espresso Maker. This is one of the smallest and most compact of all the espresso machines on the market today. It features a removable water tank that is top-filling, plus removable brew components for easy cleaning.

The favorite feature of this super-automatic machine is the accurate digital controls, which allow the barista to have complete control over the entire brewing process, including the quantity and quality of the Gaggia espresso they are making.

There are several other models for home use available as well, and with a bit of research on the internet, you can quickly find the many espresso machine models from which you can choose.

Look Like a Pro With Original Cake Molds

Saturday, June 13th, 2009

Baking is one of the most fun activities that can be enjoyed by people old and young. You will surely find wonderful satisfaction baking your own muffins, breads, tarts and pancakes brownies. from your youth you start to handle the appropriate bakeware with a little help from your parents. Most of us have experienced during childhood baking our specially designed cakes with our moms by our side. You still giggle while you reminisce how you struggled with the proper use of cake pan molds while closely following your mom’s instructions.

Nonetheless, the activity can also be a bit of struggle even for adults who are not properly guided and assisted by an individual who is not only an expert in baking but are also good at teaching how to cook. How depressing it is if you end up with a cake that will not rise or one that ends up not fully cooked.

What is irritating about these things is that they may not be the result of your imagined shortcomings or mistakes in the baking process. Many things can happen incorrectly and the culprit may not always be the you doing the baking. The problem may be due to inferior cake molds and other baking tools.

Thus, it is a must that you use only the prescribed baking molds and other implements for baking generally considered as appropriate. If you don’t want to go through a very messy baking activity it is important that you make use of the following tips and guidelines in selecting the appropriate cakeware.

The baking equipment comes in all kinds of styles and quality. The available materials include silver materials that are anodized, stainless steel, glass, non-stick, and silicon.

The aluminum type of cakeware comes in two types; the hard anodized and the silver anodized. This type of cakeware is created by the electro-chemical procedure. This process produces a hardened baking equipment that is also peel, blister and rust-resistant.

The silicon bakeware is most commonly used cakeware as it can be used in the freezer, microwave and the oven. This type of material is a a newer addition to the kitchen. It is very popular and acceptance for its durability and storage capability. It also has the capacity to hold up to temperatures of up to 580 F. the heat goes straight to the food and it immediately stops cooking as soon as it is taken out from the oven. This prevents the browning results we normally experience from other type of cakeware.

The non-stick type of cakeware is either made out of steel or aluminum. Its main feature is the special coating that is applied on its surface that provides its non-stick character. This cakeware is perfect for baking layered cakes, muffins and cupcakes where you need to remove it from the baking dish for immediate serving.

These are most commonly used styles of cakeware. Once you make a decision to do some serious baking, the learning process must also involve a study of your baking equipment and how they are used in order to create the perfect cakes and pastries.

Starbucks Coffee Your Coffee Everyday

Saturday, June 13th, 2009

You have perhaps tried almost every single type of coffee there is out there in the market, especially if you are a coffee lover like me. When I am at home I grind my own coffee, but when I go out I want to make sure there is some place I can go to get a good cup.

Though I think that Starbucks coffee is somewhat overrated, and I hate the yuppie-like ordering techniques some use while there, I do like that it is decent and that I can find it almost anywhere I go.

When I book a hotel, I often feel like I have gotten a bonus when there is a Starbucks coffee right there in the lobby. Not all hotels have this, of course, but if you can find it, it’s a great thing to have.

I drink a lot of coffee, and you can only sit around in the hotel restaurant for so long before they tell you that it is time to give up your seat for someone else. This is when Starbucks coffee, as overrated as it is, comes in handy. I know I can walk in and buy a cup when I need one, even though I know I am being ripped off. Sometimes, you just have to bite the bullet.

When I walk in and buy Starbucks coffee, I ask for a large. This has thrown many Starbucks employees. Apparently, I should be calling it a ‘tall’ or something else equally annoying. I’m all for a little pretension here and there, but I find some of the people that buy Starbucks coffee to be a little too much.

What happened to small and large? Why can’t you just ask for a latte with skim milk instead of using some foreign language. Perhaps that is all part of some coffee house culture that I don’t understand. They seem to figure out what ‘large’ is, however, and I walk away happy.

You can get Starbucks coffee at your local grocery store now too. I found it in my store, and was happy to see you could buy it in whole bean form. I thought it was a little pricey, but it was great once I got it home, ground it, and ran it through my coffee maker.

Well, maybe I am just so easy to please when it comes to coffee. Probably! The most important thing is I know that if I am away from home, there is always Starbucks coffee to make me feel at home drinking my coffee.

TemptingDessert Recipes, Anyone? It’s On The Palate Of The Diner!

Friday, June 12th, 2009

If you were to ask a group of 100 people for their definition of a delicious dessert recipe, you’d probably get very few definitions and plenty of specific dessert names. You may say “The most delicious dessert in the world is chocolate cheesecake!” Then you’ve got lemon meringue pie, apple pie, ice cream cakes, carrot cake with cream cheese frosting … oh, truly, you could write a small dictionary of delicious dessert recipes! ‘Dictionary of the Delicious Dessert’ has a nice ring.

Every family has a little stash of recipes, handed down from generation to generation. Every family claims there’s nothing quite like their own secret family treasure, particularly when it comes to tasty dessert recipes. It may well be that just a teaspoon of this or that ingredient can make that lemon meringue pie recipe unique and your family just wouldn’t have it any other way.

My Mom had her own little stash of wonderful dessert recipe cards, which she kept on index cards in a cute little painted metal box. Most were handed down from her Mom and Aunts. Three of my very favorite and most delicious dessert recipes are still in my possession: one is for fresh strawberry pie, a summer delight all the neighborhood kids looked forward to eating for the other three seasons of the year. The second is her Mom’s secret, to-die-for lemon meringue pie. The third is her Mom’s famous Norwegian butter cookies.

Now these are the benchmarks against which I measure any other dessert. Although these delicious dessert recipes must be duplicated – almost – in millions of other households, even Marie Callendar’s pies don’t measure up to those pies. As for my Grandma’s cookies, well, they are like a little visit to Heaven on a plate.

The fresh strawberry pie had me closing my eyes, savoring the sweet delights of a mouthful of fresh strawberries, whipped cream and a flaky pastry I have yet to master. When it was strawberry season, my Grandma and Mom and all of us kids would pile into Grandma’s car and drive from San Francisco to Gilroy to buy strawberries from the farm stand vendors.

Maybe what made that delicious dessert recipe an all-time favorite, to this day, is the fact that it took all day to procure the ingredients, or maybe it was the intoxicatingly fresh smell of thousands of fresh strawberries.

The lemon meringue pie made with fresh lemon and lemon zest is very lemony. The graham cracker crust added to its perfection.

As for those Norwegian butter cookies, there must be some Norwegian secret. No matter how I try to duplicate the plain butter cookie, with its ever so delicately browned edges, I cannot. I think you must have to be born in Norway or something. (She produced a similarly delicate and perfect pancake.)

Let’s hear your vote for the incomparably delicious dessert recipe or you can submit your own mouth-watering recipe. There should be a lot out there waiting to be exposed.

Food: the most Famous Business on Earth

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

The culinary realm is one of the largest, most thriving areas of specialties today. It includes so many different things and is open for any individual who is passionate. It can open a job for someone who likes to cook high class food, bake cakes, or grill a mean stake. It can even give someone who can smell the difference between Sturgeon caviar and cheap American caviar a career.

Food is more than just something you eat. It’s a sensual experience. You see and smell your food first, and then taste it.
Since the world has globalized, the food industry has grown tremendously.

Food was once an entirely cultural influenced thing, but that has changed now. When people go out, they get to chose between different ethnic foods. In the fifties, people didn’t have the choice to go out and order Chinese or Indian food. Now, we can walk down a city street and pass foods from four different corners of the world. American was once known as the burger country and now the entire world is a part of our fast food market. Food in the United States has expanded beyond its borders, and the rest of the worlds foods are immigrating inside.

Food television has also grown into a thriving industry. People have started to love watching intense restaurant drama unfold or learn how to cook themselves. The pastry industry has been the main focus in this business. Shows where ornate cakes are constructed in short amounts of time enthrall viewers. It also brings a new ligh to the culinary world. It allows cooks gain respect and fame.
The world of sweets has evolved from Twinkies and the occasional fancy wedding cake into a crazy industry of high class cupcakes and cookies. Being a pastry chef entails both culinary skills and artistic ability. Cakes are becoming works of art that have pearls and lights and anything you can dream of. Grandmas chocolate chip cookies cannot compete with today’s thousand dollars designer frosted masterpieces being created. Desserts are more than just after meal sweet treats, they are an accessory. People are willing to spend as much as they would on a diamond necklace on a birthday cake. A personalized birthday cake can mean more than scrapbook or picture. They seem to completely ignore the fact that it will cease to exists an hour after they see it.
Food advocates are the most valued members of the food industry. Without the consumers, food would cease to exist. Every one needs to eat, but some people simply love to eat. It is those people who provide cooks and TV personalities with jobs. Eating competitions, late night snackers, or return consumers are the most valued members of the culinary world.

Those people who can taste the difference between a freezer French fry from a fast food one or can taste the different spices in chili deserve a shout out. It is imperative to get followers and people who will continue loving your food if you are a chef. A loyal band of followers is the key to success. Through your base followers, your food will channel its way into the forefront of the culinary world.

Eating Meat a Lifestyle

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

Let’s be honest, meat is the best food in the world. Delicious and scrumptious, most of the world loves some good meat. One of the beauties of the food is the variety on offer. There is an almost unending menagerie of meats from which to select. There is underwater meat such as shark, tuna or turtle. Then there is steak, which also can be served and cut in many different fashions. Two of the most popular steak types are porterhouse and filet mignon. Other than that there is chicken, which also is done differently all the time. Finally, possibly the most popular kind of meat, while technically not it’s own type, is the burger. Burgers of course come from cows like steaks do but are generally a different cut.

One o especially tasty kind of meat in America is seafood. While some don’t consider fish to be meat, as it is eaten by very lenient herbivores, since it is the flesh of another animal most people do recognize it as a meat product. Some of the most in demand sea creatures in the country are salmon, swordfish, and tuna. These three fish have very dissimilar tastes. Salmon is both renowned and denounced because of its “fishy” taste. While that might not make sense to an herbivore, an experienced meat eater will get the idea. The others however do not taste like the standard fish and taste like any number of assorted animals that could be found on land.

Another heavily in demand type of meat is chicken. Like with fish, chicken comes in many special ways . One popular way to prepare chicken is by frying it. This is what is seen all across the country at Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants. Probably second on the list of favorite cooking techniques would be barbecue. Barbecuing is a big time tradition in the South and many states like Virginia, North Carolina, and Georgia each believe they have the best barbeque. The world will probably never know which state really is the greatest, to the dismay of people worldwide of course.

Finally, greatest and most incredible type of meat in America, and possibly the world, is probably from a cow. Hamburgers are a stand by all over the globe. Almost everybody loves a well cooked hamburger. While hamburger is perhaps a bad name, since the meat isn’t ham, that hasn’t stopped it from becoming the most beloved meat certainly this side of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Burger toppings are extremely important, as they can make or break the taste of the burger. Many people prefer cheese, while others have a predilection for just lettuce and tomato. In the sub category of cheese one can generally select from American, pepper jack, or sometimes others like cheddar or Swiss. For the proverbial cherry to top the sundae a lot of people go for some mayonnaise or ketchup.

Many people enjoy non vegetarian meals. Meat is delicious and what many people don’t realize is that it can go hand in hand with a healthy diet. So, put down the tofu and stop munching on just carrots and celery. Get yourself some meat in there, don’t be afraid of a little protein.
